Nicholas Youngers Receives KGCSA Cliff Dipman Internship Award for 2012

Nicholas Youngers, junior in Golf Course Management at KSU, received the first Cliff Dipman Internship Award. Nicholas will be interning this summer at Manhattan Country Club and has worked at Rolling Hills CC in Wichita and Shadow Glen GC in Olathe.
Nicholas is the son of Clifford & Mary Youngers, Viola, KS and graduated from Clearwater High School.
This $2,000 award is awarded to a KSU student doing a golf course management internship at an 18-hole golf course whose superintendent is a member of the Kansas Golf Course Superintendents Association.

Legacy Scholarship Recipients
KGCSA provides an annual $1,000 Legacy scholarship to the children or grandchildren of active members.
2012 Recipient - Cortney Nagel
Cortney Nagel, stepdaughter of Cliff Dipman, was awarded the KGCSA Legacy Scholarship for 2012.
Cortney is a junior at Kansas State University majoring in elementary education with a concentration in special education. She has been on the College of Education Dean's Honor List since 2010 and is a National Society of Collegiate Scholars member. She is Ambassador for the College of Education and currently is serving as President. Cortney volunteers her time coaching volleyball through Manhattan Parks & Recreation, Habitat for Humanity and Stoneybrook Retirement Center and is also involved in St. Isadories campus ministry.
Cortney's work experience includes office work in the Dean's office of Arts and Sciences and in the Department of HFRR. She is also a substitute at a local daycare.
Several deserving applicants applied for this scholarship and Cortney says, "it is an honor to be chosen as the 2012 KGCSA Legacy Scholarship recipient from such a great organization. It certainly will help further my educational goal of becoming an elementary teacher. Thank you very much."
2011 Recipient - Ashley Kamphaus
Ashley Kamphaus, daughter of Kevin & Trudy Kamphaus, was awarded the 2011 KGCSA Legacy Scholarship.
Ashley is a junior at Fort Hays State University majoring in nursing. She attended Udall High School where she was active in basketball and softball, drama, band, choir, FFA, FCCLA, Color Guard and school plays. She attended Cloud County Community College from 2009-2011 and played on the softball team.
2010 Recipient - Cortney
Nagel
Cortney Nagel, ste pdaughter of Cliff Dipman, was awarded the 1st KGCSA Legacy Scholarship. Cortney is a freshman at Kansas State University majoring in elementary education. She attended Manhattan High School, earning a 4.0 GPA. She was in National Ho nor Socity, serving as secretary her senior year. Cortney participated in the high school musicals and Sugar 'N Spice show choir.
She was very active in 4-H, serving as Treasurer, Vice President, President and serving on the 4-H council. She volunteered at Green Valley community soup supper and collected food for Flint Hills Breadbasket. She also participated in Key Club, Thespians, volleyball and church youth group, attending a Mission trip her junior year.
Cortney’s work experience includes Teacher Aide at Manhattan Arts Center, janitor at Central Mechanical Co., assistant office manager at Manhattan CC, babysitting and lawn care. Several deserving applicants applied for this scholarship and Cortney says, “it is an honor to be chosen as the 2010 KGCSA Legacy Scholarship recipient from such a great organization. It certainly will help further my educational goal of becoming an elementary teacher. Thank you very much."

Cliff Dipman Internship Award
The KGCSA Cliff Dipman Internship Award consists of two $2,000 awards to Kansas State University students working at a golf course whose superintendent is a member of the KGCSA. One will be directed to a student doing an internship at a 9-hole golf course, and one doing an internship at an 18-hole facility.
Applications are due by March 15, 2013 and will be reviewed by the KGCSA Board of Directors. All decisions of the committee will be final. Applicants will be notified of their status by March 30 of the year submitted. All award checks will be made payable to the applicant, the first half at the beginning of the internship and the second half at the end.
About the namesake: Cliff Dipman has been the Golf Course Superintendent at Manhattan Country Club for 31 years. He has served as a mentor to countless students who have become successful golf course superintendents in Kansas and across the United States. Year after year, Cliff has recognized the importance the internship is in complementing academics.
KGCSA Legacy Scholarship
The Kansas Golf Course Superintendents Association is sponsoring a Legacy Awards scholarship program for the children and grandchildren of KGCSA members. KGCSA will award a $1,000 scholarship to the winner to pursue their education after high school. Students already attending an institution of higher learning are eligible to apply. The KGCSA member parent or grandparent must be an active member. Children and grandchildren of deceased members are eligible if the member was active at the time of death. Applicants will be evaluated based on academic achievement, extracurricular and community involvement, leadership and outside employment. They must submit an original essay of up to 500 words. The KGCSA Board of Directors will judge the applications and select the winner. Applications need to be received by August 27, and applicants will be notified of their status by Oct. 15.
